Excerpt from Roger Stuart's history of the strike published in Semper Floreat:
"At 1 p.m. on Thursday 5th August 1971, a mass meeting was addressed by Det. Sergeant Bob Walker of the Licensing Squad. He claimed that there was no doubt that there had been widespread police violence and breaches of legality, and that the Police Union meeting which had voted no confidence in Mr. Whitrod had been unconstitutionally run, and manipulated by the 'larrikin' element of the force, the same element which had been responsible for police violence."
"Mrs. Bevan, former critic of students, also addressed the meeting on problems of communication with the public, and affirmed that she now firmly agreed with the aims of student protest, and was sickened by the fact that they had become the 'chopping block' of society. She was warmly received." (6 minutes 44 seconds)
